QATAR DECIDED TO LEAVE OPEC
Qatar decided to end its 60 years association with OPEC. It was a tough call; however, Qatar took the decision to fulfill its long term objective. Majority of analysts consider this decision as political fallout of Saudi’s blockade on Qatar, however, Qatar itself denied this charge.
Qatar has emerged as the world’s largest exporter of LNG & GTL and it wants to maintain its leadership in this green energy sector along with Russia, US and Australia. This would not have been so easy if Qatar had remained in OPEC.
OPEC remained as Saudi led cartel that may not favors the interest of Qatar. Moreover, OPEC cares more for its big players like Saudi Arabia or Iran, rather than small players like Qatar.
